Choose 4 Supporting Courses
The capstone project is a portfolio that reflects your growth and development throughout the program. Portfolios are required and must be submitted to the faculty before graduation.
The capstone project in the Master of Science in School Leadership program consists of Directed Field Experience (DFE). The DFE is similar to a practicum and provides you with hands-on experience as you work alongside a practicing school administrator.
During the MSSL program, you will also compile a portfolio and submit it to the faculty. See portfolio tab.
Two practicum courses are required as a part of the MSSE program. The first practicum course, SPED 704 Adaptive Instructional Strategies and Methods Field Practicum requires 45 hours of supervised teaching. SPED 716 Advanced Practicum requires 90 supervised hours.
Students who have completed the MSSE program of study may apply to the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) for a two-year initial license in K-12 adaptive special education. Applicants for the initial license are required to submit passing scores on the Praxis test. A passing score of 155 is required for ETS 5543 Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications.
At Baker University, we are committed to providing an exceptional educational experience that goes beyond the classroom, ensuring our students' success both academically and professionally. Our dedication to student support is at the heart of what we do.
We understand that a master’s program while working is no easy undertaking. Alongside our fully online modality, we believe smaller class sizes with dedicated support and attention lead to better success. Feel assured knowing that the average cohort size is only 10 - 15 students.
When you consider joining Baker, you'll have a dedicated enrollment recruiter to guide you through the admissions process. Once enrolled, your academic advisor will assist with your master’s degree planning, course scheduling, and connecting to success resources.
You will also have access to expert faculty mentors, networking opportunities within area school districts, and academic and career advisors. For example, an Academic Advisor provides ongoing support for each program candidate and schedules follow-up meetings on the cohort calendar, with meetings scheduled as needed by individual candidates throughout the duration of the program.
This program is carefully designed for professionals working in higher education and emphasizes an engaging, collaborative, dynamic, and inclusive learning environment.
